39 lighthouses catalogued on the Queensland coast.
Queensland's lighthouse network traces the Great Barrier Reef, the most hazardous extended coast in the world for 19th-century navigation. Reef lights — on isolated rock pillars far from any land — are a Queensland specialty. The state has more than 7,000 kilometres of coastline, and its lights range from the mainland towers of Cape Moreton and Bustard Head to the offshore beacons of Dent Island, Pine Islet and Low Isles.
