6 lighthouses catalogued on the Northern Territory coast.
The Northern Territory has the fewest lighthouses of any mainland jurisdiction, but several of them are unusual. Point Charles, Cape Don and Cape Fourcroy mark the tropical approaches to Darwin and Arnhem Land, built to withstand cyclones in regions where the sea can rise five metres in a single storm surge. The oldest, Cape Don, dates to 1917 and was staffed by families in isolated postings until the 1980s.
